Smartlead pricing for cold email: every plan, add-on and the real monthly cost

Rather not build this yourself? Pipefire runs your cold email end to end.See how it works →

Smartlead's cold email plans start at $39 a month for the Base plan and run to $379 a month for Unlimited Prime, but the plan price is only part of the bill. Domains, mailboxes, lead data and whitelabeled client workspaces are all sold separately on top, and the real monthly cost of a working cold outreach setup usually lands well above the headline number.

This page checks Smartlead's own pricing, lead-finder and sales-automation pages, all opened today, and adds up what a typical 10-domain, 20-mailbox cold email setup actually costs once the add-ons are in. For the wider set of named alternatives to Smartlead, see our Smartlead alternatives guide, which this page does not repeat.

What are Smartlead's cold email plans and prices?

Smartlead sells four plans, priced by email sends and verified prospect emails rather than by seat or mailbox. Smartlead's pricing page, checked October 2026, lists:

Smartlead planPrice/monthPrice/month (annual)Sends/monthVerified prospect emails/month
Base$39$326,0002,000
Pro$94$7890,00030,000
Unlimited Smart$174$144150,00050,000
Unlimited Prime$379$315500,000170,000

Annual billing saves about 17% on every plan, confirmed on the same page. Every plan includes unlimited connected mailboxes, unlimited warm-up, and a 2026 FAQ entry stating there is no per-account or per-mailbox charge for the sequencing software itself. That last point matters for the next section: the sequencing tool is unlimited, but the mailboxes you connect to it are not free.

Whitelabeled client workspaces are a separate charge, $29 a month per client, available from the Pro plan upward; Unlimited Prime includes three workspaces before the per-client fee applies. An agency running several client brands through one Smartlead account adds this to every plan above Base.

How does Smartlead pricing compare with Pipefire for cold email?

Smartlead and Pipefire answer different questions about cold email. Smartlead sells a sending tool priced by volume, where you buy the domains and mailboxes separately and run the setup yourself. Pipefire, which we make, is a done-for-you platform: one flat monthly fee that includes the sending domains, mailboxes, warm-up, prospecting, campaign writing, sending and reply sorting already bundled in.

Smartlead is cheaper for a buyer who wants to run the stack themselves. That means picking your own SmartSenders provider, managing unlimited mailboxes directly, and scaling send volume by plan rather than by a flat monthly fee. It fits agencies running many clients through their own dashboard, comfortable assembling domains, warm-up and prospecting as separate line items at a price that moves with send volume. Pipefire's $497 a month is the better fit when the job is handing the whole setup, not just the sending software, to someone else.

Who should pick Smartlead over Pipefire for cold email, and who should not?

The right choice comes down to who is willing to operate the stack day to day.

  1. Pick Smartlead if you want to choose your own mailbox type and price point. SmartSenders offers several mailbox tiers, including a cheaper option with a bulk minimum and a pricier pre-warmed option, and a buyer with preferences can mix and match.
  2. Pick Smartlead if your volume is small or highly variable. The Base plan at $39 a month, before add-ons, costs far less than a flat $497 fee for a buyer sending only a few thousand emails a month.
  3. Pick Smartlead if you already have prospecting and copywriting covered elsewhere. SmartProspect and SmartAgents help with data and workflow automation, not with someone else writing the sequence.
  4. Pick Pipefire if you want domains, mailboxes, warm-up, prospecting, writing, sending and reply sorting handled as one job. The $497 a month Standard plan folds all of that into a single fee instead of five separate line items to track.
  5. Pick Pipefire if the real cost you are avoiding is your own time, not the dollar total on an invoice. See the Pipefire pricing page for what Standard, Pro and Scale each include.

What add-ons does Smartlead charge for cold outreach infrastructure?

Domains and mailboxes are the biggest add-on cost on top of a Smartlead plan. Smartlead's SmartSenders pages, checked October 2026, describe SmartSenders as mailboxes bought through Smartlead from several partner providers, with a few price tiers:

Mailbox typeDomain/yearMailbox/month
Standard Google or Outlook, fresh$13 to $16$4.50 to $5
Standard SMTP (75-mailbox minimum order)$19$3.99
Pre-warmed Google or Outlook$18$9

SmartSenders configures MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and the tracking domain automatically on purchase. New mailboxes are ready within 24 to 48 hours. Standard mailboxes still need the usual warm-up period before cold sending. Pre-warmed mailboxes skip that and can send the same day, at the higher per-mailbox rate above. Domains are billed as a one-time yearly payment that expires with the mailboxes on it after 12 months, so there is no separate renewal line to track mid-year.

A dedicated sending IP, sold as a SmartServer, is a further add-on at roughly $39 a server a month. Unlimited Prime includes three of these in the plan price, and lower plans pay the per-server rate if they want one.

Choosing a mailbox type matters for the total bill. The cheapest SMTP option runs $3.99 a mailbox a month, but requires a 75-mailbox minimum purchase, which rules it out for a 10-domain, 20-mailbox setup. For that volume, the standard Google or Outlook tier at $4.50 a mailbox is the realistic entry point, and that is the rate used in the worked example further down this page.

Three things push a Smartlead bill above the plan price for most cold outreach setups:

  1. Domains and mailboxes through SmartSenders, billed per domain per year and per mailbox per month.
  2. SmartProspect's $59 a month maintenance fee on Base and Pro, once the 2,000 free credits run out (free on Unlimited Smart and Prime).
  3. Whitelabel client workspaces at $29 a month each, for any agency running more than one branded account.

How much does Smartlead's SmartProspect lead finder cost for cold email?

SmartProspect, Smartlead's built-in lead finder, is marketed as free but carries a flat $59 a month maintenance fee on the Base and Pro plans once you move past the trial credits. It is included free on Unlimited Smart and Unlimited Prime. Smartlead's SmartProspect page, checked October 2026, states you get 2,000 free credits to test lead quality. After that, the fee covers verification, scoring and compliance checks on a database the page describes as more than 300 million business profiles.

The number of leads available each month is tied to your plan's send-volume tier, rather than priced per lead or per seat. A Base-plan account and an Unlimited Prime account pay different amounts for SmartProspect, Base through the $59 fee and Prime for free, but both draw from caps set by their plan. That makes SmartProspect cheap relative to a standalone B2B data provider, but on Base and Pro it is still a cost on top of the sequencing plan, not folded into it.

What does SmartAgents cost for cold outreach automation?

SmartAgents, Smartlead's no-code sales automation builder, has no separate price listed on Smartlead's own pages. It is described as capability included with Smartlead plans rather than a paid add-on. Smartlead's sales automation page, checked October 2026, describes SmartAgents as a tool that turns a plain-English task description into an AI agent. It runs alerts, lead syncing and reporting across Slack, HubSpot, Google Sheets and similar tools on a schedule or trigger.

SmartAgents automates workflow and reporting tasks around a campaign, rather than drafting the cold email sequence itself from a brief. If the add-on budget is for someone else writing the actual subject lines and bodies, SmartAgents is not that product on Smartlead's own description.

What does a real Smartlead setup cost for cold email each month?

A 10-domain, 20-mailbox Smartlead setup with prospecting included costs about $254 a month once every add-on is counted, not the $39 Base plan headline price. Here is the full bill, using October 2026 prices from Smartlead's own pages:

Line itemMonthly costWhy
Sequencing plan$94Pro, the lowest tier that covers roughly 12,600 emails a month across 20 mailboxes; Base caps at 6,000 sends/month
10 domainsAbout $11$13/domain/year (SmartSenders standard rate), spread monthly
20 mailboxes$90$4.50/mailbox/month (SmartSenders standard rate)
SmartProspect$59Flat maintenance fee once past the 2,000 free credits
TotalAbout $254/monthPlus any whitelabel client workspace at $29/month each, and campaign copy, which this setup does not include

This figure is an illustration built from the prices on this page, not a quoted total from Smartlead's own site. Your actual bill depends on which SmartSenders provider you pick and whether you take annual billing. It also does not include anyone writing the campaign copy, since that is not part of Smartlead's own sequencing plan. Our cold email cost breakdown compares this kind of DIY stack against an agency retainer and a done-for-you platform at the same volume.

Two of the four line items in that table are the sequencing plan itself; the other two, domains and mailboxes, are what actually scale with mailbox count. Doubling to 40 mailboxes roughly doubles the domain and mailbox lines, while the plan fee only steps up once a volume ceiling is crossed. That stepped pricing is worth checking against your own numbers before assuming the entry plan covers your setup.

Is annual billing worth it for Smartlead cold email plans?

Annual billing cuts every Smartlead plan by about 17%, which is worth taking if you are committed to the channel for a year. On the Pro plan that is the difference between $94 and $78 a month. On Unlimited Smart it is the difference between $174 and $144 a month, both confirmed on Smartlead's pricing page checked October 2026. Domains bought through SmartSenders are already billed as a one-time yearly payment regardless of how you pay for the sequencing plan, so the annual discount only changes the plan fee itself, not the domain and mailbox add-ons.

The tradeoff is the usual one for annual software commitments: a lower monthly rate against less flexibility if your send volume or team size changes mid-year. A new cold outreach setup still needs its mailboxes to clear a warm-up period regardless of the billing cycle chosen; see our email warm-up guide for the schedule that applies either way.

Smartlead pricing cold email FAQ

How much does Smartlead cost per month for cold email?

Smartlead's own pricing page lists four plans: Base at $39/month, Pro at $94/month, Unlimited Smart at $174/month, and Unlimited Prime at $379/month, each about 17% cheaper billed annually. Domains, mailboxes, whitelabel workspaces and the SmartProspect lead finder are separate purchases on top of these plan prices.

Does Smartlead charge for mailboxes and domains for cold email?

Yes. The sequencing plan itself includes unlimited connected mailboxes at no extra charge. Actually buying domains and mailboxes runs through Smartlead's SmartSenders add-on, from $13 a domain a year and $4.50 a mailbox a month on the standard provider tier, checked October 2026.

What does Smartlead's SmartProspect lead finder cost for cold outreach?

SmartProspect gives 2,000 free credits to start. After that, a $59 a month maintenance fee applies on the Base and Pro plans. It covers verification and scoring on leads up to your plan's monthly volume cap, and is included free on Unlimited Smart and Unlimited Prime, confirmed on Smartlead's own SmartProspect page checked October 2026.

Is Pipefire cheaper than Smartlead for cold email?

Not on the headline number. Smartlead's Base plan starts at $39 a month versus Pipefire's $497 a month Standard plan. Once domains, mailboxes and prospecting are added to a working Smartlead setup, the gap narrows considerably. Smartlead still comes out cheaper for a buyer running the stack themselves; Pipefire's price covers everything being handled for you instead.

What is the real monthly cost of running Smartlead for cold email?

For a 10-domain, 20-mailbox setup with prospecting included, expect about $254 a month. That covers the Pro sequencing plan, SmartSenders domain and mailbox fees, and the SmartProspect maintenance fee, all at prices checked on smartlead.ai in October 2026. Whitelabel workspaces and campaign copywriting, if needed, cost more on top.
